I was inspired after visiting Costa Rica to start a series of images of monkeys. Specifically Howler Monkeys. In Costa Rica there were trees full of Howlers. They seemed to be everywhere. At night we could hear them on the roof of our hotel. I’ve taken some liberties with the details of how Howler monkeys look because I wanted to express some of the colors of Costa Rica in these images. I also wanted to depict how their howl makes them seem much bigger than they actually are. I imagine this helps them in the wild to ward off predators. I wouldn’t want to meet up with one or a bunch of them at night. This one depicts a Howler in mid-howl.
